    Tablet and Injection Composition:
    Tablet:Each tablet contains Drotaverine Hydrochloride INN 40 mg.
    Injection: Each ampoule (2 ml) contains Drotaverine Hydrochloride INN 40 mg.
    Drotaverine HCI is a new potent synthetic antispasmodic drug which is readily absorbed from the intestine. Like papaverine, it acts directly on the smooth muscle fibers exceeding however, the antispasmodic effect of the standard preparations. Drotaverine HCI is characterized by its rapid onset of actions which has advantage in cases of acute painful spastic conditions. In addition to its spasmolytic and vasodilatory actions, Drotaverine HCI elicits a selective blockage of cardiac beta-receptors.
    Gastric, Intestinal or pyloric spasm, cholelithiasis and spastic constipation, to relieve tenesmus- in dysentry dysmenorrhoea, peripheral vascular disorders. Owing to its freedom from cardiotoxic and hypotensive effects Drotaverine HCI has outstanding value in the treatment of coronary insufficiency and angina pectoris.
    The usual dose for adults is 1 to 2 tablets three times daily, one to three times 2 to 4 ml infeQtion subcutaneously or intramuscularly.ln case of acute state colic 2 to 4 ml may be given by slow intravenous injection, in case of pheripheral arterial spasm or obstruction Drotaverine HCI may be injected intra arterially.Children should be given smaller doses according tc age and body weight.,—»=ill children should receive once or twice daily 1/4 to 1/2 tablet.older children 1/2 to 1 tablet daily.ln peptic ulcer it is expedient to combine Drotaverine HCI with atropine or atropine-like compounds.
